The Brachypelma hamorii or mexican red knee tarantula is one of the most famous spiders ever. This new world tarantula was called Brachypelma smithi till 2016. After a revision of the Brachypelma species this tarantula bacame its new name.
You can see these beautiful creatures in many terrarias all over the world. Their appearance is very appealing and they are very docile, that´s why many beginners in the hobby try to get one of those 8-legged beings. They grow very slowly and reach sexual maturity after about 4 to 6 years.
The species is subject to species protection in accordance with the Washington Convention on Species Protection and falls under protection status II. In Germany for example you need a certificate of origin to keep this spider.
