Chilobrachys kaeng krachan
Dark earth tiger tarantula
Habitat: Thailand
Type: terrestrial
Longevity: ♂ ~ 4 years / ♀ ~ 15 years
Body size without legs (cm/in): ~ 7/2,8 (males are much smaller)
This species was discovered in the Thai national park "Kaeng Krachan" and named after it, making it an old world spider without urticating bristles. Its dark appearance has earned it the nickname dark earth tiger, with the carapace varying from light to dark. The females are sometimes twice as large as the males, which among other things means that the male usually does not survive mating. Not only the size, but also the color makes a clear difference between the sexes. The males appear in a simple light brown shade.
