Haplocosmia himalayana

(Pockock, 1899)

Himalayan earth tiger (fossorial)
India, Nepal
~ 5 cm bodylength
Longevity: ♀ ~ 12 years, ♂ ~ 4 years

This species used to be listed under Selenocosmia, until 2003 it was assigned to Haplocosmia. The spider has velvety hairs , the basic color is black, while the carapace and knees are significantly lighter, almost white. This species is sometimes described as very aggressive and defensive. Like almost all Asian representatives, this animal is also very quick when needed. For an adequate attitude, we recommend sufficient soil substrate, in which you can place a few stones in order to create the most natural environment possible!
