Tapinauchenius violaceus (Schmidt, 1995)

Purple treespider (arboreal)

Habitat: Guyana, Brazil (NW, no urticating hairs)

Body length: ~ 5 cm

Longevity: ♀ ~ 10 years, ♂ ~ 4 years

Since a revision in 2008, this arboreal species has been called Tapinauchenius violaceus (previously T. purpureus). Visually a feast for the eyes, but nervous and withdrawn. This genus is generally very fast, and if there is no way to escape, this spider will also face the enemy.
