Harpactira pulchripes

(Pockock, 1901)

Golden blue-legged baboon spider (fossorial)
South Africa
~ 5 cm bodylength
Longevity: ♀ ~ 15 years, ♂ ~ 3 years

A very defensive and sometimes nervous spider. Due to the bluish color on the legs and the star-shaped pattern on the carapace, the species is very modern and sought-after, although it is certainly not a beginner's spider. The males can be adult after two years and usually appear a little darker than the females. Harpactira are rather undemanding in keeping and like it dry. The cave is usually completely lined with web - all meters in the enclosure are accepted for construction. Even a vibration can trigger a threat posture.
