Chilobrachys kaeng krachan

Longevity: ♀ ~ 18 years, ♂ ~ 4 years

A very robust and strong fossorial species from Thailand. It was discovered in 2013 in the national park of the same name. The females reach a body length of 7 cm while the males are much smaller (approx. 3 to 4 cm; the color is also noticeably lighter - see pictures below).
If you observes a mating, you have the impression that this difference is wanted by nature - the males, as far as we know, are usually eaten immediately after the fast-moving act. The animals are very defensive and have unsanctioned energy - placing a plastic can over the spider is not enough to stop it, it just keeps going with the "lid"...
